✨PCFMI and DTI-CPAB Team Up to Educate Consumers on Rights, Nutrition, and Sustainable Living
The Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. (PCFMI) partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry – Consumer Policy and Advocacy Bureau (DTI-CPAB) in the successful conduct of the Konsyumer Assembly sa Barangay (KAsB) held last July 16, 2025, at Risen Garden, Quezon City Hall.
The event underscored the strong commitment of government and industry partners to collaborate in equipping consumers with vital knowledge for everyday decision-making — particularly in choosing nutritious, balanced meals and embracing sustainable living for the family. Through initiatives like KAsB, stakeholders continue to empower communities to lead healthier and more informed lives.
In celebration of Nutrition Month, PCFMI Executive Director Dr. Mario Capanzana led a special session on nutrition education, delivering a talk titled: “Pagkaing Balanse para sa Pamilya: Masustansya, Abot Kaya, at Alaga sa Kalikasan – Isang Gabay sa Wastong Nutrisyon at Sustainable na Pamumuhay.” The discussion centered on guiding consumers toward practical, nutritious, and balanced meal planning using the Pinggang Pinoy® as a visual model for healthy eating. Dr. Capanzana also emphasized the importance of making food choices that are both affordable and environmentally sustainable, aligning with the broader goals of family wellness and ecological responsibility.
The assembly was attended by employees of Quezon City Hall, along with general consumers from District 4 barangays, including Central, Pinyahan, Teachers Village East and West, Krus na Ligas, and San Vicente. These communities were invited through the efforts of DTI-CPAB as part of its commitment to strengthen consumer education at the grassroots level.
DTI-CPAB Director Cherryl G. Carbonell emphasized the importance of informing consumers about their rights, responsibilities, and the legal safeguards available to them. She noted that empowered consumers contribute to a more fair, just, and healthy society.
The Konsyumer Assembly sa Barangay serves as a platform for stakeholders from both government and the private sector to work hand-in-hand in advancing consumer welfare and promoting sustainable, well-informed choices in everyday family living.
