The Regulatory and Scientific Affairs Co-Lead, together with members of the Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. (PCFMI), recently attended the FDA Kapihan on February 26 at Intellidesk, Parkway Corporate Center, Alabang. The session highlighted initiatives to support Philippine food exporters, including the agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and transparency through its continuously improving e-services platform.
The FDA emphasized the expanded use of its e-services—a key digital transformation initiative designed to streamline processes, reduce turnaround times, and address longstanding industry concerns over lengthy registration procedures.
The FDA Kapihan highlighted the agency’s responsiveness to pre-submitted industry concerns, reflecting a shift toward collaborative, solution-oriented regulation and underscoring its commitment to continuous system improvements that support both public health and economic growth.
Another major focus of the session was the FDA’s strategic efforts to strengthen its international recognition as a competent and credible regulatory authority, a critical factor in facilitating smoother export processes and reinforcing global confidence in Philippine-processed food products. Key initiatives highlighted include:
• Recognizing FDA Philippines as the Competent Authority for processed foods in export markets
• Enhancing bilateral and multilateral regulatory cooperation
• Improving export-related documentation and food safety assurance mechanisms
• Aligning regulatory frameworks with international standards to support global market access
PCFMI stresses that constructive public-private engagement is essential to building a resilient and globally competitive food manufacturing sector. The FDA Kapihan continues to serve as a vital platform for transparent dialogue, reinforcing a shared commitment to science-based regulation, continuous improvement, and export facilitation.
As the Philippines expands its footprint in international markets, robust regulatory systems, digital transformation, and collaborative governance remain key pillars for driving sustainable growth in the food industry.
The Philippine Chamber of Food Manufacturers, Inc. (PCFMI), represented by its Executive Director, Board of Directors, and member companies, actively participated in the Public Consultation on the 2025 Philippine Nutrient Profile Model (PNPM) organized by the National Nutrition Council on February 20, 2026, at Admiral Hotel Manila.
PCFMI welcomes the continued dialogue between government and industry on policies that shape the country’s nutrition landscape. The PNPM represents a significant development that may influence product reformulation, food labeling, consumer education, and innovation across the Philippine food manufacturing sector. As such, the Chamber views stakeholder consultations as essential platforms for constructive engagement and collaborative policymaking.
During the consultation, PCFMI expressed its appreciation for the opportunity to provide technical inputs to strengthen a PNPM framework that is science-based, transparent, and practical to implement. The organization emphasized the importance of ensuring that nutrition policies achieve meaningful public health outcomes while remaining feasible for manufacturers operating within diverse market realities.
Recognizing the vital role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the food value chain, PCFMI highlighted the need for policies that consider varying levels of industry capacity. Supporting MSMEs through realistic transition pathways, clear guidance, and adequate lead time will help enable effective compliance and encourage innovation in healthier food options.
PCFMI likewise underscored the value of grounding policy decisions on Philippine-specific scientific evidence, including local dietary intake data, product composition insights, and socio-economic considerations. The Chamber advocates for a comprehensive Regulatory Impact Assessment to help ensure that the PNPM advances public health objectives without unintended impacts on food affordability, accessibility, and industry sustainability.
Moving forward, PCFMI reaffirms its commitment to working closely with government partners and stakeholders to promote evidence-based nutrition policies that balance health priorities with economic resilience. Through continued collaboration, the Chamber aims to help build a food system that supports healthier Filipino consumers while fostering innovation and growth in the Philippine food manufacturing industry.
